The Genesee: Making an Impact Nationally and Locally
A collaboration of Housing Resources Group and AIDS Housing of Washington, The Genesee provides fifty apartments for low-income individuals and families in Seattle. The Genesee recently garnered national recognition by receiving an Honorable Mention in the 13th Annual Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Awards. A current resident describes how the housing project has made a difference in his life.

The Genesee's Grand Opening
On May 18, 2006, AHW and Housing Resources Group celebrated the grand opening of a new housing development. The Genesee will be home to 50 individuals and families in our community who are living at or below 50% of the area median income for Seattle/King County.

Downtown Emergency Service Center, AIDS Housing of Washington and Other Partners Team to Serve Hardest-to-House Population in Seattle
AHW is one of five Seattle agencies collaborating on an innovative systems integration project that addresses the housing and service needs of the "hardest-to-house" population -- the chronically homeless, who so often are also struggling with HIV/AIDS-related issues, mental health problems, chemical dependency, and histories of incarceration.

Approximately 744,313 people homeless on a single night
AIDS Housing of Washington believes that we can do better, that we can bring about an end to homelessness.Through our collective will, we have the ability to improve the housing and social service programs in our state. Together, we can eliminate the barriers that keep people homeless and hopeless in our communities today — and we will do so because of our shared responsibility to each other as neighbors.

HEET Profile: A Changed Man
In January 2006, Tony, 48, a client of the HEET program, experienced a “first-ever” life experience—moving into his own apartment. The HIV Enhanced Engagement Team (HEET) pilot program is a collaboration of AHW, Downtown Emergency Service Center, and Evergreen Treatment Services.

Lyon Building Evaluation Underscores Value of Stable Housing
A recent evaluation of The Lyon Building finds that the program has achieved success in sustaining housing for people who are multiply diagnosed and have chaotic, unstable housing histories.

Washington Families Fund Announces 2006 Grant Awards, Receives Additional $4M from the State
The Washington Families Fund (WFF), which recently received an additional $4 million allocation from the Washington State Legislature, has announced its second round of statewide grants to five innovative housing partnerships.

Fall 2007 Combined Application Workshop
Six public and private funders, including WFF, are combining resources to support capital, supportive services and operating or rental assistance. Organizations interested in applying are encouraged to attend an application workshop on 7/18/07.

    New name, new mission, same commitment to homes & services for those in need
    AIDS Housing of Washington has now taken the name Building Changes, to better reflect our new mission and expanding programs.

    Washington Families Fund Awards $5.5 Million in New Grants to Help Reduce Family Homelessness Statewide
    On January 16, 2008, the Washington Families Fund announced $5.5 million in new grants to 14 different housing and social service projects across the state. These awards will fund an additional 225 units of service-enriched housing for homeless families throughout Washington State.

    National AIDS Housing Coalition Launches Policy Toolkit
    This Policy Toolkit, developed by the National AIDS Housing Coalition (NAHC) through a grant from the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, translates research findings confirming the critical role of housing in HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment into a user-friendly format to inform public policy at the local, state and federal level.

    The Times They Are A-Changin'
    Twenty years ago we overcame prejudice, inequity, and ignorance to ease the pain and suffering of one of our community's most vulnerable populations — individuals dying from HIV/AIDS. Today, the epidemic is homelessness, and too many men, women, and especially children are at risk.

    Shirley Bridge Bungalows Receives AIA Award
    The American Institute of Architects has selected Shirley Bridge Bungalows as a 2007 recipient of the Housing Committee Award in the Special Housing category.
